Wexford Football League Club of the year

After last weeks heroics against North End, it was interesting to see how the lads would fare out in this game against another of the favourites for the title, and the answer was quite simple, the team have shown they are capable of competing at this level. Early in the game, keeper Eoghan Murphy was called on to make a save from a long range effort but other than the game was equally contested with both sides cancelling each other out. Just on the half hour mark, Tombrack had the ball in the net from a corner only for it to be disallowed for impeding the keeper and four minutes later, Rangers went ahead when a direct through ball found its way beyond the home side defence and the the incoming Gorey player fired to the net.

The second half reaction from Tombrack was excellent and ten minutes into the half, they were level when Eoin Carton used his power and strength to hammer the ball past the keeper for Tombrack's first goal at Premier level. Fifteen minutes later it could have been 2-1 when Savo broke through and did everything right but the keeper saved superbly. Rangers also had their chance at the other end but although the ball went by the keeper, Kevin Kenny was on hand to clear off the line
Once again the game settled into a tentative affair and looked to be heading for a draw until three minutes from the end, Tombrack were unable to get the ball clear of the area and Gorey fired the ball into the bottom corner. Eight minutes injury time was added but although the home side did all they could, they were unable to find that elusive equaliser.

This was definitely a positive display by the home side but will need to keep building on these performances as they now move on to play Shamrock Rovers next Sunday
