Wexford Football League Club of the year

Good Weekend for Club

Under Twelve Schoolboys

Tombrack United  2  Fethard Rangers  2

Our Under Twelve boys produced a hard working performance against a decent Fethard team to earn a point in Ballyboy on Saturday. Cathal Byrne and Danny Dreelan played very well as the lads ground out a draw with Stephen O Toole scoring both goals

Under Fourteen and Under Sixteen Schoolboys

Tombrack United v New Ross Town

Both these sides were due to play New Ross Town but disappointingly neither game went ahead as Town were unable to field a team for either match so points were awarded to Tombrack

Under Sixteen Schoolgirls

All Blacks 2 Tombrack United 6

Our Under Sixteen girls got their season off to a flying start when they travelled to All Blacks for what could have been a tricky encounter but came away with all three points after a 6-2 win. Lucy Kemble scored the opener for Tombrack but All Blacks levelled almost immediately but two goals from Nadine Fortune, one each from Amie Dreelan and Becky Connaughton and a second from Lucy gave Tombrack a well earned three points

Under 13 Boys Div 1a: Tombrack United 1 Forth Celtic B 4

Our Under Thirteen boys opened their season with a disappointing performance as they never got up to speed against an eager Forth Celtic side. Rob McCrea scored for goal for Tombrack but it was only a consolation as Forth ran out 4-1 winners

Under 15 Boys Div 3: Tombrack United 2 Gorey Celtic B 5

This match was much closer than the scoreline suggests but it was Celtic's ability to find the net was the main difference between the two sides. Evan Maher scored both goals for the home side who played well in periods of the game before eventually going down 5-2

Youths Div 3: Tombrack United 5 Bree United 1

The Youths team remainded unbeaten and in touch with the leaders after this emphatic 5-1 victory over Bree United. Kevin Kenny was in flying form and scored four while Josh McMullan celebrated his call up to the Wexford Under Sixteen squad with a goal. The Youths have opened their season with a win and a draw and are looking like a side capable of contesting for a top half finish in this division

Senior Premier Division: Tombrack United 1 Gorey Rangers 2

After last weeks heroics against North End, it was interesting to see how the lads would fare out in this game against another of the favourites for the title, and the answer was quite simple, the team have shown they are capable of competing at this level. Early in the game, keeper Eoghan Murphy was called on to make a save from a long range effort but other than the game was equally contested with both sides cancelling each other out. Just on the half hour mark, Tombrack had the ball in the net from a corner only for it to be disallowed for impeding the keeper and four minutes later, Rangers went ahead when a direct through ball found its way beyond the home side defence and the the incoming Gorey player fired to the net.

Senior Division 4a: Campile United 4 Tombrack United 0

The men's second team travelled to Campile but never really got going and struggled to come to grips with the game as they were beaten 4-0 by a well organised home side. The lads did create chances but found the home defence difficult to break down and will need to get themselves back on track for next week if they want to get themselves into the promotion hunt

Womens Friendly: Ajax Athletic 0 Tombrack United 8

A seventeen strong squad travelled to Ajax for the Women's second pre season friendly and the management team used the opportunity to try out some new formations and give some of the newer players more game time. Goals from Shannon Mcgovern and Mary Boland had Tombrack 2-0 up at half time and the second half saw the women take control as goals followed from a Becky Connaughton free kick, a Sarah Merrigan penalty, an own goal when a defender deflected to the net under pressure from Aimee Walsh. This was followed by a Becky Connaughton corner being deflected to the net for 6-0 before Leanne Kenny shot to the roof of the net while Shannon rounded off the scoring as she found space in the penalty area to shoot past the keeper. An overall good performance with players putting in a great effort with Kelly Murphy and Hannah Kilbride making impressive debuts
