Under Sixteen girls still in the hunt for honours

Schoolgirls Under Sixteen Premier Division

Tombrack United 2 Forth Celtic 2

Our Under Sixteen schoolgirls completed their season this evening with a dramatic 2-2 draw in Ballyboy that leaves them deadlocked at the top of the Premier Division with Forth Celtic but the Murrintown girls have one game left as they play away to St Leonards on Saturday needing just a point to clinch the title.

This game was a closely fought encounter with little to divide both sides as both teams worked hard to find the all important breakthrough that would give either side the advantage in the quest for the league title. Forth drew first blood when they took the lead twelve minutes with a looping long range effort that found the corner of the net but Tombrack battled hard and got back on level terms with a well struck right footed shot that sailed into the back of the net. The visitors went back in front with ten minutes to go and as the game moved into injury time, they must have thought they had done enough to secure the title until deep in injury time, Becky Connaughton got on the end of an Amy Tobin Cosgrave through ball to slam the ball to the back of the net and keep the girls title ambitions alive

The girls now have an anxious wait to see how the game in Dunmain pans out on Saturday morning where nothing less than a win from the home side will prevent Forth Celtic from being crowned champions. No matter what the outcome, our girls can look back on the season with pride as they are assured of runners up no matter what happens in St Leonards but there could still be a play off to face on Monday evening if all goes well

Some good performances as Over 35s lose out in Kilkenny

Carlow and District League Over 35 Division Two

Castlewarren Celtic  5  Tombrack United  0

Due to holidays and injuries, Tombrack were only able to muster Eleven players to travel to Evergreen's state of the art astro pitch to take on Castlewarren Celtic. It was the final quarter of the game before the home side eventually broke down the resilient visitors who battled hard in very warm conditions and were unlucky not to score just before the break when Jonathan Dempsey saw his shot blocked down. The home side took the lead midway through the first half with a well taken free kick and doubled that advantage just before half time.

Tombrack continued to press forward in the second half but could not break down a hard working Castlewarren defence and with fifteen minutes to go, the lack of numbers took its toll and Celtic knocked in another three for a flattering 5-0 win, leaving Tombrack still in search of their first win. All eleven players worked hard throughout the game with Willie Breen and David Kennedy combining well in defence while Willie Maher played well sitting in just behind midfield

A free weekend next Saturday to give our players an opportunity to support the club field day and then back to league action the week after that

Under Sixteen girls still in contention

Under Sixteen Schoolgirls Premier Division

St Leonards  0  Tombrack United  4

A strong second half display from our Under Sixteen girls saw them pick up a vital three points to fellow title challengers St Leonards in a warm and sunny Dunmain this morning. An evenly contested first half saw both sides create chances but could not find the net with Zoe Tobin Cosgrave going close when her shot was cleared away before it crossed the line while at the other end, Leanne Kenny continued her in form weekend with two good saves.
