Under Sixteen girls still in contention

Under Sixteen Schoolgirls Premier Division

St Leonards  0  Tombrack United  4

A strong second half display from our Under Sixteen girls saw them pick up a vital three points to fellow title challengers St Leonards in a warm and sunny Dunmain this morning. An evenly contested first half saw both sides create chances but could not find the net with Zoe Tobin Cosgrave going close when her shot was cleared away before it crossed the line while at the other end, Leanne Kenny continued her in form weekend with two good saves.

Results Catch Up

Published: Sunday, 03 June 2018 19:43

Due to work commitments, I have been away from this for a few days, so now I am going to do my best to catch up on all outstanding results, ranging from the bad, to the disappointing to celebration

Men’s Premier Division Relegation Play Off

Tombrack United  0  New Ross Celtic 4

At this stage this is old news but needs to be recorded none the less. After just one season, the men’s first team dropped out of the Premier Division and back to Division One where a mid season slump proved to be very costly. After three tough games at the start, the lads began to pick up points with wins over Courtown Hibs and Moyne Rangers being the highlights, however as the season wore on, injuries and players missing at crucial times, saw some disappointing defeats against Bridge Rovers and Corach Ramblers in particular.

With the season moving to a close, the lads battled hard to retain their place, securing a late equaliser against Ross Celtic in Ballyboy which forced a relegation play off against the same opposition in Shamrock Rovers pitch a week later.

This game was a step too far and Celtic showed their capabilities and experience as they ran out 4-0 winners in a game that Tombrack struggled to get a grip on, this defeat saw the lads go back to Division One automatically, ironically, to be joined a week later by Ross Celtic who lost the play off proper 2-1 to Forth Celtic

While it was disappointing to drop back after just one year, it will depend on how well the lads can react now and are well capable of battling for promotion again if they can get the attitude right from the start. They can be proud of their efforts in the Premier Division and showed in several games that they can compete at this level and hopefully will be back again in the not too distant future

Women’s Nolan Health and Fitness Cup Final

Tombrack United  1  New Ross Town  2   aet

In a strange cup final played in Moyne Rangers pitch, the Women took on a rejuvenated New Ross Town but fell short in extra time to a Town side who just would not give up. Tombrack controlled the game for long periods and it was always felt that the goal was going to come to go in front, but it never did, despite Shannon, Sarah, Leanne and player of the match (for Tombrack), Mary Boland all going close, hitting the post three times, seeing balls scrambled off the line, fingertip saves from the Ross keeper as the opposition goal lived a charmed life

Carlow Over Thirty Five League Division Two

Village FC  2  Tombrack United  1

Two first half strikes from outside the penalty area saw Village FC take all three points in this very entertaining league match in Bagenalstown where for various reasons, Tombrack only had ten players but still produced one of their best performances to date

The home side started well but found a resilient and determined Tombrack defence difficult to break down with Willie Breen, Darren Quinn and Martin Kenny all working hard to keep them at bay before a well struck volley on fourteen minutes eventually beat David Kennedy to put Village 1-0 up
