Women bow out of FAI Shield

FAI Intermediate Shield Quarter Final

Tombrack United  0  TEK United  7

Dublin Premier champions TEK United travelled to Ballyboy today and had no great problems in seeing off a brave effort from our Women's team. While the DWSL side ran out comfortable winners int he end, it was Tombrack who started the best and enjoyed the bulk of the possession for the opening fifteen minutes with Sarah Merrigan seeing her shot go just wide of the post. As the game progressed, the more experienced visitors took control and took the lead on twenty three minutes when awarded a questionable free which was fired to the roof of the net and they increased that advantage ten minutes later when some slick passing, made space in the area to slot past Ashling Kavanagh in the goal. Kelli Maguire did have a half chance just before the break but could not get enough power in her shot to trouble the keeper

Tombrack started the second half well but could not break through a well organised defence and ten minutes in, TEK made it 3-0 and it was downhill from there as their superior fitness saw them knock in another four despite the best efforts of Ashling and a hard working Tombrack defence. Sarah almost had the final say when her well struck shot just cleared the crossbar

TEk were the most dominant team in the DWSL last season and showed they are an overall, well organised side who play fast passing football but our women battled hard for the ninety minutes but just found the fitness and experience of the visitors just too much to handle on the day

Team: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin, Ciara Ryan, Tia Byrne, Eimear Whelan, Nikki Dunphy, Katie O Toole (Rebecca Connaughton), Sarah Merrigan, Kelli Maguire, Aimee Walsh, Leanne Kenny

Carlow and District League Over Thirty Five Division Two

Killeshin FC  4  Tombrack United  1

The lads travelled to divisional champions Killeshin yesterday evening but despite starting reasonably well, they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline as the home side used their experience to wrap up their season unbeaten and comfortable winners of the division. Tombrack started well and brought the game to the home side and while not creating any clear cup chances, they did pressure the Kileshin defence and had them working hard to keep the lads at bay.

Carlow and District League

St Joseph’s 4 Tombrack United 3

A strong second half performance saw Tombrack just fall short of picking up another point when going down 4-3 to St Joseph’s in Tinryland this evening. Darren “Dingo” Quinn gave the lads the ideal start when scoring after ten minutes to go in front but the lead was short lived as the home side dominated the first half to score four to lead comfortably at half time.

a strong second half saw Tombrack press forward and pulled one back through David Fox and he could have had a second but his shot came back off the post. A Joe Goodall penalty made it 4-3 to set up a tense finish but the home side held on to take all three points

FAI Women's Intermediate Shield

Clane United  3  Tombrack United  5

Two contrasting halves of football saw Tombrack women finish stronger against a very capable Clane side to eventually book their place in the last eight of the FAI Intermediate Shield enduring temperatures of 26 degrees to do so. With only eleven players available due to age restrictions (players must be sixteen or over) and injury, the women travelled to the North Kildare side confident that they could do enough to get past the home side (at least the manager was confident) but this confidence was given a test when Clane scored after just six minutes and was really put under pressure when they made it 2-0 on the twenty minute mark. However, Tombrack continued to work hard and could have
