Wexford Women's League Division Two B

Tombrack United  4  New Ross Town  0

The Women opened their Division Two B campaign with a win when they overcame a young New Ross Town side 4-0 in Ballyboy this morning. An early goal from Shannon McGovern had the visitors on the back foot in very breezy conditions and although they made an effort to push forward, they found the home defence difficult to break down. Shannon scored her second goal midway through the half when she bravely clashed with the keeper to touch the ball into the net, taking a heavy knock from the outcoming

goalie in the process. Minutes before the break, Marie Allen crossed the ball into the area and Leanne Kenny was on hand to make it 3-0 and effectively put the game out of the visitors reach. Tombrack continued to control the second half and Shannon made it 4-0 on sixty minutes with a weaving run that took her through the heart of the Town defence. Amie Walsh, Kelly Murphy and Becky Connaughton all had chances well saved before the end with Ashling Kavanagh having to be sharp off her line near the end to continue her impressive run of clean sheets

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin, Breda Cushen, Mary Boland, Sarah Merrigan, Marie Allen, Shannon McGovern, Kelli Maguire, Becky Connaughton, Leanne Kenny (Katie O Toole), Amie Walsh (Kelly Murphy)

Wexford Football League Division Four A

Boolavogue United  4  Tombrack United  3

Our B team left Monamolin very frustrated when they battled back from 3-0 down to almost grab a point which was cruelly snatched from them in the ninety sixth minute. A poor first half performance saw the lads trail 3-0 at the break but some great spirit and determination saw them battle back with goals from Kevin Kenny, John Ryan and an injury time equaliser from John Kavanagh and it looked like a point had been earned. However, five extra minutes injury time proved to be their undoing as Boolavogue scored very late to take the three points, much to the frustration of the Tombrack side
