Wexford Football League Division One

Tombrack United  0  Bridge Rovers  0

An exciting end to end entertaining encounter saw Tombrack and Bridge play out a scoreless draw where both sides could have sneaked a win but were probably happy with a point at the final whistle. The first half was cagely contested with neither side taking control and neither goalkeeper had to make any dramatic saves although both sets of defences had to work hard to keep their opposition at bay. The best two chances of the half for Tombrack fell to Josh McMullen, who broke through the tight Rovers defence twice but the angle was too tight to find a way past the keeper. Mattie Hendrick also got his head to a Kevin Kenny cross but could not get enough power to guide it toward the goal.

Both sides upped the tempo in the second half with Bridge enjoying the best of the early stages and probably should have went ahead when they broke through but saw their effort go wrong side of the post. As the game moved into the final quarter, Tombrack became more dominant and pressed forward in numbers with Evan Maher linking up well to put Jamie Walshe into space but the ball went wide. With five minutes remaining, Jamie had a goal bound shot well saved by the Rovers keeper and minutes later, his low shot brought another good save from the keeper

This display was one of the best out of the team all season and all twelve players can all be credited with a massive effort and definitely deserved a point from this game, and it could be a point that will prove crucial in the long run

A big game at home to Glynn Barntown on Sunday at 11am will be followed by a tough game away to North End United, a team who could be champions by then, or could be looking for a point, a very interesting few weeks ahead but based on tonights performance, this team do not deserve to go down to Division Two

Team: Evan Murphy, Dane McGarry, Kevin Kenny, Bob Newe, James Coleman, David Power, Darragh Hendrick, John Coleman, Mattie Hendrick (Evan Maher), Josh McMullen, Jamie Walshe
