Wexford Football League Division One
Bridge Rovers 3 Tombrack United 0
The 3-0 scoreline flattered the home side in the end but Tombrack probably did not create enough chances in a game that was very closely contested with two late goals giving the home side a vital three points. Bridge enjoyed the best of the opening twenty minutes and took a deserved lead on twelve minutes before Tombrack found their feet and went in search of an equaliser. Jamie Walsh had a well struck effort pushed over the crossbar on twenty five minues and had another shot well saved ten minutes later as Tombrack enjoyed their best spell of the game although the home side always looked dangerous on the break
The second half was equally as tightly contested as the first but the home defence stayed strong and reduced Tombrack's chances to long range efforts. Bridge were awarded a penalty on the hour but was off target and as the game moved towards the final whistle, Bridge were awarded another penalty with five minues to go and this time Evan Murphy in the goal had no chance...2-0. As Tombrack piled forward in search of that elusive goal, they inevitable happened when they got caught on the break and Rovers scored in injury time to win 3-0.
This was a game where for long stretches of the game, Tombrack matched their opponents and it was the accuracy in front of goal that proved the difference between the sides in a relegation battle where every point will be vital.
