O Neills LFA Junior Cup Second Round
Avonmore FC 4 Tombrack United 1
A poor first half performance saw our men exit the LFA Junior Cup, losing 4-1 to a strong physical Avonmore side in Rathdrum on Sunday morning. The home side have started their league campaign well in Wicklow and are currently unbeaten and for the first forty five minutes, Tombrack did not come close to their recent run of good form and goals in the 10th, 18th and 33rd minutes saw the lads trail 3-0 at half time. The small pitch did not help but the home side were more up for the game and when they scored three minutes into the second half, the game was over as far as we were concerned. Ironically, this is when we played some of our better football and began to create more chances as Willie Maher made changes in an effort to get his team back into the game. John Coleman went close when his long range swerving effort hit the crossbar and five minutes from time he scored with a well placed shot after some good work from his brother James put him through. Tombrack could have had the final say when Harry Fitzgibbon was unlucky not to get the final touch in a race to the ball with the keeper. It’s back to league action for the lads next week with an away game in New Ross Town and hopefully a return to winning form
