Wexford Football League Division One

Glynn Barntown  5  Tombrack United  2

This was always going to be a difficult season opener for our men's first team as last season's Division Two winners were looking to make it two wins from two in their first time in this division. The opening twenty minutes saw the home side enjoy a lot of possession but did little to trouble the visitors defence and Tombrack were unlucky not to go one up when Eoin Carton saw his shot just clear the crossbar. On the half hour, an effort from just outside the box took a cruel deflection and the ball looped over Aaron Breslin and into the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Glynn Barntown were enjoying the best of the opportunities at this stage and went 2-0 ahead just before half time, although Tombrack almost had the final say of the half when a Richie O Hara had his goal bound effort well saved by the keeper.

Ten minutes into the second half, Glynn Barntown made it 3-0 and effectively ended the game as a contest although once again, they had their keeper to thank as he pulled off a brilliant one handed save to deny Kevin Kelly's fantastic header and within five minutes, it was 4-0. At this stage, Tombrack began to show some character and play their best football of the game and were rewarded with a goal from Josh McMullen who got on the end of a Jamie Murphy cross. A few minutes later, their keeper was dismissed for abuse and just on ninety minutes, Jamie Murphy scored to give a glimmer of hope

However, as they pressed forward in search of further goals, they got caught on the break and although Aaron pulled off a good save, the rebound fell to one of their forwards who rolled the ball into an empty net. While this was not a great performance with a lot of mistakes made early in the game proving costly, the lads did show character late in the game and ended well and will need to bring this to their next game for the full ninety minutes

Special mention to Evan Maher who made his full senior first team debut with a steady performance with Bob Newe and John Coleman also performing well

Wexford Football League Division Five

Tombrack United  4  Adamstown  0

The men's second team opened their season with a comfortable home win as a strong overall performance saw them dominate this game from start to finish. Two goals each from Harry Fitzgibbon and man of the match James Kavanagh saw the lads pick up all three points. Player manager David Fox was delighted with the performance and commitment from the lads as is  confident they can be in the hunt for honours at the end of the season
