Saturday February 2nd

Wexford Football League Youth Division Two

Tombrack United  7  Glynn Barntown  1

Tombrack Youths side gave themselves a decent chance of avoiding relegation when proving far too strong for fellow strugglers Glynn Barntown, running out 7-1 on a rock hard pitch. With David Power and Evan Maher pulling the strings in midfield, the lads controlled possession and led 3-0 at the break, with keeper Evan Murphy, rarely troubled. It was much of the same in the second half, although the visitors did manage to find the net, with Tombrack scoring another four. Harry Fitzgibbon scored a hat trick with Josh McMullen finding the net twice while Hassid Yasin and new signing Tom Browne also scored

Sunday February 3rd

Wexford Football League Division Four A

Cloughbawn AFC  6  Tombrack United B  0

This game away to division leaders Cloughbawn was much closer than the 6-0 scoreline might suggest but Tombrack's inability to find the net is proving costly. The home side led 2-0 after just ten minutes but Tombrack came more into the game after that with Josh McMullen bringing a couple of good saves from the home sides keeper but clinical finishing by Cloughbawn saw them score two more to lead 4-0 at the break. Tombrack continued to press forward in the second half with William Dunne and Jamie Murphy both going close and as the game moved to a conclusion, the Division Four A leaders scored two more for a flattering 6-0 win. The B team have had some tough games in recent weeks and in the next few weeks should come up against some of the clubs involved in the relegation battle with them which should give them the opportunity to compete for some crucial points

Wexford Women's League Division Two

Tombrack United  3  Bunclody AFC  1

With injuries, illness, work and exams reducing the squad to just ten players, the women's team produced a hard working display to take a well deserved three points with two goals late in the second half. Bunclody started well and after just seven minutes were in front when Alma Morris held her nerve to slot the ball into the net. but on twenty minutes, the sides were level when some good work between Kelli Maguire and Sarah Merrigan saw the latter send a curling effort to the back of the net. The remainder of the first half saw chances reduced to long range efforts which both sets of defences dealt with comfortably.

The second half saw Tombrack much more dominant and pressed forward in numbers with Shannon and Shauna McGovern taking control in midfield which opened up the game, putting pressure on the Bunclody defence, who conceded several corners and free kicks in quick succession, Amie Dreelan going closest when her header from Sarah's corner went just over the crossbar. With twenty minutes to go, Bunclody's best chance came when Ashling Kavanagh pulled off an excellent save from Mikayla Farrell and this seemed to spur on Tombrack who went in search of the winner and ten minutes from the end, Bunclody had to defend strongly to clear a goalmouth scramble

As the game moved to injury time, a through ball from Kelli put Sarah through and although she had a lot of work to do, she held her nerve to lob the ball over the advancing keeper and into the roof of the net. Two minutes later, Shannon scored a goal that almost borders on indescribable as she got the ball outside of the area, weaving left and right, evading tackles and lunges until she eventually found space to shoot to the corner of the net, 3-1 and game over. With leaders Corach being held to a draw, this win moves the women to the top of the table and into a very strong promotion position. Next Sunday, the women travel to Premier leaders Ferns United for the second round of the Wexford Cup, the first meeting of the two neighbouring sides

Squad: Ashling Kavanagh, Mary Martin, Ciara Ryan, Eimear Whelan, Amie Dreelan, Shauna McGovern, Shannon McGovern, Marie Allen, Kelli Maguire, Sarah Merrigan
