Wexford Football League Division One

Moyne Rangers B  2  Tombrack United  2

Tombrack showed massive character to come back from 2-0 down at half time to secure a point with a late goal in a game where both sides will feel they were hard done by. The game was evenly contested in the opening twenty minutes with both Dane McGarry and Kevin Kenny bringing good saves from the Moyne keeper before the home side found their feet and came more and more into the game. Moyne took the lead on twenty eight minutes in controversial circumstances when a well struck shot hit the underside of the crossbar, seemed to bounce on the outside of the goal line but the referee thought otherwise and pointed to the centre spot, despite the argument from the Tombrack players. Ten minutes later, the home side doubled their lead when Tombrack failed to clear their lines and the ball ended up in the back of the net. This was a real test of character for the lads and one they stood up to and from the kick off, went in search of a goal to get back into the game and were rewarded seven minutes into the second half when awarded a penalty for a reckless challenge and Rory Newe calmly slotted away the spot lick, sending the keeper the wrong way. Tombrack were the better team in the second half but still had to work hard to keep Moyne from increasing their lead with all four defenders and keeper working hard while up front, the Moyne defenders had to work equally as hard to keep Tombrack at bay. Darragh Hendrick, Jamie Walsh, Savo and Kevin Kenny all went close and as time became the enemy, it looked like Moyne were going to hold on, until Jamie Walsh lined up his shot just outside the area and fired the ball, hitting the bottom of the crossbar and once again the ball bounced out, but once again the referee was brave enough to make the decision and award the goal, this time to the annoyance of the Moyne players. This proved to be the final kick of the game as he sounded the final whistle and Tombrack left Belfield with a hard earned point in a 2-2 draw, that could have so easily been 1-1. The full squad played a vital part in securing this draw with all fourteen players contributing a major role in a game where the team showed character and commitment to come from 2-0 down

Squad: Aaron Breslin, Niall Maher (Eoin Carton), Bob Newe, James Coleman, Kevin Kelly, John Coleman (Mick "Savo" Kelly), Darragh Hendrick, Dane McGarry (Eoghan Murphy), Rory Newe, Kevin Kenny, Jamie Walsh

Wexford Football League Division Four A

Tombrack United  0  Enniscorthy United  4

Two goals in each half saw Enniscorthy United come to Ballyboy and overcome our B team 4-0 in a game where our lads just had one of them days where they never got going and were restricted to a limited number of chances

Wexford Women's League Division Two

Tombrack United  5  Stoney LFC  1

A strong first half display saw our Women pick up their third win of the season and move joint second in the table as they overcame a physically strong Stoney side 5-1. Tombrack took the lead early in the game when Shannon McGovern tapped home an excellent Becky Connaughton corner after just three minutes and nine minutes later, Kelli Maguire made it 2-0 when she lobbed the keeper from twenty yeards out. Midway through the half, Becky got on the scoresheet herself to make it 3-0 with Shannon grabbing her second ten minutes before half time. Leanne Kenny made it 5-0 with five minutes to go to the break with a well taken effort, as she found space on the edge of the area. Stoney were much better in the second half as Tombrack made several substitutions  and the visitors were rewarded with a well taken goal midway through the half and to be fair to Stoney, they did make the Tombrack defence work hard to prevent them from scoring another couple. However, in the end, the Women held on for a well deserved 5-1 win that moves them joint second in the table midway through the season

Wexford Youths Cup First Round

Corach Ramblers  8  Tombrack United  1

Missing several key players due to a school trip, our Youths fielded a very young squad away to Corach in the Youth Cup and struggled to compete with the physically stronger home side. However, they worked hard for the ninety minutes and will have gained a lot from the experience and were rewarded with a consolation goal from Hassid Yasin.
